Newsec Infra acted as exclusive PPA advisor to pulp producer Rottneros on entering into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) including Guarantees of Origin (GoOs) with the German energy group Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW).
The utility will supply Rottneros with renewable electricity delivered from the 116 MW Målarberget wind farm in Sweden over an 8.5-year period starting in 2025. The partnership marks an additional step in Rottneros’ objectives to reduce the environmental impact of its operations and its exposure to the volatile and uncertain electricity market.
Commenting on the PPA agreement, Lennart Eberleh, CEO of Rottneros, said:
“Signing our first PPA is important as it represents the first steps in our long-term and targeted work to diversify our portfolio of electricity futures. While reducing the company’s exposure to the volatile electricity market it will also contribute to increasing the share of renewable electricity in society by being a long term off-taker of green energy.”
Commenting on the cooperation with Newsec Infra, Lennart Eberleh continued:
“Given Newsec’s long track record in energy transition across several renewable technologies it was an easy choice to contract them as sole advisor in our first PPA. We would like to thank Newsec Infra for their high-quality support throughout the process.”
Omid Ashrafi, Managing Partner at Newsec Infra commented:
“We are proud to have supported Rottneros on this long-term power purchase agreement securing renewable energy directly from the Målarberget wind farm. We are thrilled to see how subsidy-independent onshore wind can provide Swedish energy intense industry with green, cost-competitive power and hedge one of their key operational expenses. It is also a pleasure to follow the Målarberget wind farm, that we got previously acquainted with when we supported the sale of the wind farm from PNE to Enlight in 2019.”
