Newsec Infra Advises Access Capital Partners and KGAL on the sale of the 21.6 MW operating Honkajoki Wind Farm in Finland

Newsec Infra is delighted to have advised Access Capital Partners and KGAL  – two leading asset management companies focusing on private assets including infrastructure and renewable energy on their sale of the operating Honkajoki wind farm in Finland to a fund managed by Ardian.

The 21.6 MW Honkajoki wind farm, located in Kankaanpää (Finland), was originally taken into operation in 2013. It has been owned by funds managed by Access Capital Partners and KGAL.

The sale comes at a time where the wind farm has two years remaining on the total 12-year Feed-in-Tariff premium. It offers Ardian, investing through its Clean Energy Evergreen Fund (ACEEF) and its operating partner eNordic the opportunity of further developing the wind farm beyond the FiT premium with further optimizations of its revenue and operation strategy.  The investment is part of a broader deployment strategy covering wind and battery storage in Finland. ACEEF is Ardian Infrastructure’s first open-ended clean energy fund, which was launched in early 2022 and whose fundraising reached €1.0bn at the closing in July 2023.

Tomas Wegelius, Partner at Access Capital Partners, commented:

“ACP funds have been active in Finnish infrastructure and invested in the Honkajoki wind farm since 2015. Through this sale coordinated by Newsec, along with our partners KGAL we are pleased that Ardian and eNordic will continue to support this project at an important time in the energy transition”.

Further commenting on the sale, Stefan Schachner, Portfolio Manager at KGAL commented:

We are delighted to have successfully concluded the sale of the Honkajoki wind farm, in partnership with Access Capital Partners and the advice of Newsec Infra to Ardian’s Clean Energy Evergreen Fund. KGAL has been providing active asset management services and will continue its strong and ongoing commitment to deliver sustainable infrastructure solutions.

Omid Ashrafi, Managing Partner at Newsec Infra commented:

“We are proud for the vote of confidence from Access Capital Partners and KGAL and also for being part of further investments by Ardian in the Nordics. We enjoyed the opportunity to work on this transaction and follow the development of a wind farm with strong operational track record into its next phase of development. It has been a pleasure to work with a strong team on both sides in this deal assessing value enhancement potential also for a project in its tenth year of operation.”
